Shaun Tan Wins an Oscar!
Did you watch the Oscars on Sunday? I did. I couldn’t help it. There is something about the anticipation of waiting to find out whom the winners are while the presenter slowly opens the envelope.
This year, I was even more excited to see that Shaun Tan was nominated for an Oscar. Not only was he nominated, but Shaun’s The Lost Thing won Best Animated Short!
Take a peek at the trailer for The Lost Thing below, and, if you like what you see, come to GPL to check out his books! My personal favorite is The Arrival.
Too Much to Discuss
I was planning on finding one amazing tidbit to share with you today; however, after pursing the Interwebs this morning, I realized that I could not limit myself to one thing.
I have narrowed my list to three items to share, so here it is:
1. THE HUNGER GAMES MOVIE HAS A RELEASE DATE!!!! Mark your calendars for March 23, 2012. Now, if they would only cast the film, then I would be a happy librarian.
2. Aimee Ferris has a new book, Will Work for Prom Dresses, that will be released on February 8th. To celebrate her new book, Aimee put together a website where authors can submit their prom pictures. Talk about taffeta, puffed sleeves and duct tape galore!
3. Have you ever wondered what Michael Jackson’s Smooth Criminal would sound like on a cello? Well, here you go! (The first portion of the video is obviously aimed at the over 21 crowd; however, we figured all of the music lovers at GHS would love to see a new take on a modern song.)
Books into Movies
It’s summer! What better way to cool off (other than visiting the library) than by going to a local movie theater – especially since there are many books are being turned into movies. For example, have you seen Eclipse yet? In July, there is The Last Airbender and Beastly starring everyone from Vanessa Hudgens to Mary-Kate Olsen to NPH! Scott Pilgrim vs. The World opens in August with Michael Cera playing the role of Scott. AND, the trailer for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows was released! Except you won’t be able to see the movie until November, but it looks AMAZING!
