TSRE 2013 / SPIN THIS! #50’s#60’s#70’s

We visited the local record store, Ignition Music, for an afternoon with Steve Martin and Joel Jimenez. They took us on a listening journey, beginning with the roots of rock and roll (Buddy Holly, Little Richard) and ending with a comparison of the first track of Pink Floyd’s Dark Side of the Moon in Mp3, cd, and vinyl formats (of course the record sounded the best!).

 

TSRE 2013 / COOL CATS & HIP BEATS #50’s

With the help of local writers, Sara Wakefield and Tristan Beachy-King, we learned about the Beat Movement, as well as had a chance to write our own “beat” poems and share them with the group. It was so much fun!

TSRE 2013: POP! Goes the Soda Shop #50s

The first event of this year’s TSRE, 50 Years of Summer, was terrific! We got to learn about the history of Goshen’s iconic South Side Soda Shop from owner, Nick Boyd, as well as make our own old-fashioned sodas. We even got to eat their delicious hand-made french fries!

Librarian Senior Pictures!

To celebrate this year’s TSRE: 50 Years of Summer, we invited all of the staff at GPL to submit their senior pictures for our summer display. The results are amazing!

If you are a teen, come into GPL and guess what decade each of the librarians graduated in. The teen who gets the most right WINS!!!

 

TEEN SUMMER READING 2013!

June 3rd – July 20th

THIS SUMMER YOU CAN EXPERIENCE WHAT LIFE WAS LIKE…OLD-SCHOOL STYLE!

Anyone entering 6th – 12th grade this fall is eligible for the program. All you need is a library card.

• FIRST : Fill our your registration form and turn it in at GPL’s main desk.
• THEN: Fill out reading records as you read , which you turn in to earn prizes such as movie passes, pizza, ice cream, and other coupons donated by local merchants. They’ll also increase your chances of winning the grand prize.
• ALSO: Sign up for our different programs. You will want to sign up right away, because the programs fill up fast!
