Mini Golf in the Library

For our January Nerd’s Night Out, we designed our own mini golf course in the library! Teams were able to use cardboard, books, furniture, recycled materials, tape, and plastic cups to create their portion of the course. Each group had 30 minutes to design their hole, and then we played through the course. It was a lot of fun, and we hope to repeat the event sometime soon.

This hole involved three barriers with book end, and a challenging finish around the corner!

Definitely the most challenge hole on the course. You must make one straight shot all the way up the ramps to the hole.

Another challenging hole including a “sand trap” of shredded paper.

RedHawk Hacker Lab

Recently, GPL Teens paired up with Goshen High School to provide makerspace experiences with students at the new “RedHawk Hacker Lab.” We had a lot of fun playing with our food in the marshmallow challenges!

These lovely ladies dominated the tower challenge!

Three teams rocked mad marshmallow bridge skills and tied to win the bridge challenge!

Piet Mondrian Coasters

At our last Crafty Bandits club  meeting, we learned about modern art, artist Piet Mondrian, and listened to some cool jazz. We also made some of our own modern art coasters!

Here are some of the super cool results:

New Fiction Review: Hold Me Closer

Hold Me Closer cover artNew fiction review by Teen Services Librarian:

If you liked Will Grayson, Will Grayson by David Levithan and John Green, you will LOVE Hold Me Closer: The Tiny Cooper Story. From the author of Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist, comes the complete musical outlined in Will Grayson, Will Grayson.

I actually read Hold Me Closer first, but didn’t feel like I was losing out on the story at all, so they can be read in either order. It’s a quick read, since it’s a play. It’s also as heart-warming as it is hilarious. The incomparable Tiny Cooper, who is very big, and very gay, will be a character to remember. I can’t wait for the audio version—or dare we hope?—the actual musical production. Two enthusiastic jazz hands!

Grade Recommendation: 9+
