Flashback Friday – It’s Rex Manning Day!
It’s Friday – not to state the obvious or anything. While many of you are looking toward the upcoming weekend, I am looking back to the past – specifically 1995, when a little movie called Empire Records (rated PG-13) came out. You may be asking yourself, “Why would she be thinking of Empire Records? Isn’t that movie really old?”
Well, I will tell you why. First off, the classics are never old, and, even though you were only an infant (or not even born) when Empire Records came out, it is never too late to revisit the classics – even the contemporary classics.
Secondly, the movie takes place in an AMAZING independent record store called Empire Records (the kind that I dreamed of working in way back in the day when I was a teen) on the Rex Manning Day. Rex Manning is the idolized rock star that visits the store to sign his albums and ends up being not so cool – but I’m digressing (look it up – it’s a good SAT/ACT word). Anyways, the staff of Empire Records is overjoyed that is Rex Manning Day, and the joy of the Empire Records’ staff is equivalent to my joy on book buying day at GPL – which oddly enough just so happens to be today!
So, enjoy this clip of Rex Manning Day at Empire Records (and, yes, on book buying day, I am the GPL equivalent to the crazed red-haired guy running down the steps), and I am off to convince Michael that we need to add Powerless by Matthew Cody to our collection. Wish me luck!
