East met West here at Goshen Public Library on Tuesday, June 10 for the first event of the Teen Summer Reading Experience, Deep in the Art of Summer. With the help of local Japanese women, Goshen teens practiced the ancient art of Origami.

Authentic Japanese snacks and soft drinks provided fizz — and fuzz! (if you don’t understand the fizz/fuzz connnection, check out Ramune soda.) The teens — coached by Japanese mentors — moved from table to table creating a crane, a jumping frog, and a functional paper cup, among other designs.

TSRE events:

  • Monday, June 16 – Convert Your Shirt
  • Thursday, June 19 – Improv Workshop

Stay tuned for details!
